Michelle Yuan, PhD

Dr. Michelle Yuan is a molecular biologist with classical bench science training who has navigated a fascinating journey from academic research to AI entrepreneurship. Her scientific career began in Drosophila neural development before transitioning to Novartis, where she worked to identify molecular mechanisms behind lipid misregulation in age-related macular degeneration. This corporate experience provided valuable insights into drug development processes and business operations while she pursued advancement toward a junior lab head position leading her own industry team.

A pivotal shift occurred when she joined Outlier, developing complex prompts to challenge AI models and meticulously evaluating their reasoning capabilities. Simultaneously, she co-produced a podcast analyzing emerging AI technologies, offering her expert perspective on industry developments.

This immersive AI experience transformed her outlook on both technology and career trajectory. She recognized that traditional pharmaceutical roles—including the target identification, validation, and drug development position she had been pursuing—would likely undergo significant transformation due to AI advancements. The stark contrast between pharmaceutical development timelines and the rapid pace of technological innovation further influenced her decision to pivot.

Together with her co-founder Dr. Ryan Grippo, a fellow biologist, she established Camiry AI. Their company focuses on helping individuals develop AI confidence and competence, with the mission of transforming how people incorporate artificial intelligence into their professional and personal lives.

A passionate educator and scientist, Dr. Grippo (Ryan) co-founded CamiryAI to bridge the gap between the complexities of artificial intelligence and its practical application in the real world. Holding a PhD in biology with a deep focus on neuroscience, Ryan’s approach to AI consulting is uniquely informed by an in-depth understanding of how learning and intelligence fundamentally operate. 

Ryan’s commitment to advancing AI understanding extends to hands-on experience in shaping Large Language Models (LLMs). He has contributed his expertise to leading platforms, including working with Mercor and Outlier to train and refine LLMs, directly influencing how these powerful tools learn, interpret, and generate human-like text and reasoning ability. This practical involvement in the mechanics of AI model development enriches his ability to train others to interact with them efficiently and effectively.
